Inscribed in black ink, b.: A View in 1810 of North side of Front Street, Toronto, from Peter to John Streets shewing the Residence of Hon. George / Cruikshank from 1800 to 1821 in a Cottage Building, and from 1821-81 as a new house in front of the old, also the 2 Story White frame Dwelling / erected in 1805 of John Beikie, Clerk of the Executive Council of Upper Canada, also the Half way House Tavern erected in 1805 near John Stt. / Copy of the original Picture in the possession of / Mrs. Stephen Heward made by E. Wyly Grier for J. Ross Robertson in 1896.; l.l. (key): Residence of Hon. George Cruikshank N.W. corner Front and Peter Streets / Built in 1800. It was in the rear of the House of 1821.; l.c. (key): John Beikie's House built about 1805. / Taken down on opening up of Windsor Stt.; l.r. (key): Commissariat Store House built 1800. / enlarged in 1830. Taken down in 1853.; l.r. (key): Half way House. / Built 1805.; u.l. (below inset view): Residence of Hon. George Cruickshank, N.W. corner Front and Peter Streets / Built in 1821 directly in front of the House erected 1800.
