Sullivan, of the Hanna fleet, is planning on pulling up stakes at his native home, Trenton, Mich. and moving to Cleveland with Mrs. Sullivan. Capt. Ed. was married to a Trenton belle at Erie during the summer. McARTHUR'S PORTABLE FIRE ESCAPE. The McArthur portable fire escape or Jacob's ladder, which is now being introduced on the lakes, is meeting with much success. Capt. Hugh Mc-. Alpine, master of the steamer Erie, has written as follows: "We have tried and tested a sam- ple of the. McArthur Portable Fire -- Escape and Jacob's ladder and consider it one of the best of its kind we have ever seen for any boat or building which have straight up and down sides to which the ladder can be applied." The Upson-Walton Co. has written the following endorsement of it. "We have in our store a sample of the McArthur patent portable metal- lic fire escape or Jacob's ladder. It is light and strong, non-combustible non-corrosive, and just the thing for passenger boats, steam freighters or other vessels, also for manufacturers, hotels, apartment houses, etc. All ought to be equipped with this most useful appliance." TRADE NOTES. The Independent Pneumatic Tool Co., has purchased a large four-story brick building adjoining its plant at . Aurora Ill., giving it ~ approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of additional floor space. About $65,000 will be spent in new ma- chinery. The Atlantic Works Incorporated, 28th street, and Gray's Ferry Road, Philadelphia, recently received an or- der from the National Wrecking Co., Milton, Del., for one of their B-17 ad- justable bevel band saw machines which are built specially for boat yard wotk.. The Illinois Boiler Cleaning Com- pound Co., 280 Hudson avenue, Chi- 'cago, has just put out a little catalog descriptive of their compound for cleaning and preserving steam boilers. They represent that their compound prevents the formation of scale, pit- ting and corrosion in steam _ boilers. The compound. is purely vegetable and is put up in powdered form. The Falls Hollow. Staybolt -Co,, Cuyahoga Falls, O., report that their business during 1906 was' 50 per cent greater than any previous year's show- ing.
