THE Marine REVIEW PROPELLER i No Rope Can Jam This Propeller The high tariff prohibits our exporting to the United States but we will mail you complete working drawings and fitting instructions and you can then have the propeller cast and fitted by your own people. Royalty for designing: Up to 10 ft. diameter; 8 dollars per foot diameter ; 10' to 15' diameter; 12 dollars per foot; over 15 ft. 15 dollars per foot; payable HALF when ordering, and balance in six months when you are satisfied. The Royal Mail Steamers "GANDO" and "SALAGA" (6,000 tons deadweight, 2,600 I. H. P. loaded co-efficient 74), new. facsimile steamers; the former fitted with the Walte-s' Propeller; the latter with a uniform elliptical-- both in Manganese Bronze, have now completed their sea- going tests, extending over two voyages. The "GANDO" is over three-quarters of a knot (.8) fast- er than'her sister ship in fine weather on a slightly less consumption, and about a knot and a half in head seas. The owners have consequently since fitted their S. S. "MEL- VILLE," -7,200 deadweight, with a Walters' Propeller, and purpose fitting others. LEITH, 4th September, 1900. R. W. GARDNER & Co., Steamship Owners. S. S. "Claremont." Deadweight, 3,150 tons. Loaded Coefficient, 798. This is to certify that some months ago we fitted this steamer with a Walters Propeller, being guaranteed by the Walters Pro- Ss. S. "CLAREMONT"? R. M.S. '*GANDO" peller Company an extra half-knot on the same I. H. P. in fine weather and a knot in head seas against any propeller that might be in position, and have since care- fully tested same. A comparison of the logs of two voyages befoze and two after fitting, from Archangel to Holland, and vice versa, made in collaboration with our Con- sulting Engineer, and with the guarantee in view, shows the best day's work (loaded ship) with the original propeller to be 216 knots with "Strong ~ fair wind and following sea," and with the Walters Propeller 232 knots "Calm and clear," an increase of two-thirds of a knot. In head winds and seas the difference is very great; two consecutive entries with the Walters Propeller reading "Fresh wind and head sea," 225 knots, and "Strong head wind and sea, vessel plunging," 221 knots. So far as wé can judge, the distance under similar circumstances with the orig- inal propeller would have been about 190 knots. The Captain and Engineer report that there is no tracing or appreciable vibration, either light or loaded. Revs.--Original propeller, 66; let 167.5 We are perfectly satisfied that the Propeller has complied with the guarantee given, and have pleas- ure in issuing this certificate. R. W. GARDNER & CO.
