McElhinney The Mississippi River Commission has just completed a tour of inspection on the levees of the government steamer Mississippi. This commission is composed of General O. H. Ernst, president;; Lieut. Col: Clinton B. ~ Sears, of New Orleans; Major Henry B. Richardson, of New Orleans; Major Ff. L. Casey, of St. Louis; Judge R. S. Taylor, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Mr. John A. Ockersen, Ol St |ouis; Mr. Homer BK. Ritter, U. S. Coast *& Geodetic Survey, and Capt. W. B. Ladue, secretary of the commission. The steamer left St. Louis on April 4 and reached New Orleans on April 13. The commission re- ports that the levee line while far from complete is in very good condition and able to withstand any rise in the river that is likely to occur this year. Walter S. Lloyd and John H. Wright, of Duluth, have bought the steamer Mascotte from the Delray & Belle Isle Ferry Co., of Detroit. The Mascotte is an iron ship 103 ft. long, 29 ft. beam and 8 ft. deep.
