39 BOSTON MARINE NOTES. Boston, April 15--An order has been issued from the navy department trans- ferring Commander John L. Gow, in- spector of machinery for the navy depart- ment at the works of the Fore River Ship Building Co., Quincy, Mass., to duty as head of the department of steam en- gineering at the Norfolk, Va., navy yard. Commander Gow will leave Quincy April 20, and will report at Norfolk April 26. . Commander E. Theiss, will be trans- ferred from New York to duty as in- spector of machinery- at the Fore River Ship Building Co., beginning April 20, to fill the position made vacant by the promotion of Commander Gow. The buyers of steel throughout the country are making demands on the United States Steel Corporation for a reduction of 10 per cent in the price of finished steel products, The tugboat Nonpareil, owned by the Peoples Brothers, of Philadelphia, and which sank at the Staples Coal Co.'s wharf, East Boston, last Thursday, has been raised by the Betts Wrecking Co. The turbine steamers Yale and Har- ~vard, which have been lying at Brown's wharf, East Boston, since the Metropoli- tan line discontinued its outside passen- ger service last October, are now being overhauled preparatory to a resumption of their trips to New York. A thrilling rescue of 35 men from their sinking craft was accomplished by the Dominion line steamer Turcoman, which arrived at Portland, Me. April 6, from Bristol, five days behind time. The Tur- coman brought the crew of the barkentine Bearn et Bretagne of St. Bervan, France, which foundered on March 27, in mid- ocean after she had been dismasted. The question of the rights of American fisherman in Newfoundland waters has been reopened by the arrest at Port Aux Basques, N. F., of Captains Morrissey and Spinney, of the Gloucester fishing fleet. The two captains were summoned into court for fishing with trawls inside the three-mile limit. Port Aux Basques is included in that part of the coast of Newfoundland where American fishermen have the right under the treaty of 1818 to fish wheresoever they please, either inside or outside territorial waters. The fisher- men were advised to pay their fines pend- ing the settlement of the whole question at The Hague. GS HG. Str. Sit: att, Ste. Sine Sch. Str Seb. Str. Bee; Str. Str. Bee. Sir ce 66 Str.
