FISHING STEAMER FOR CASE FISH CO.. Robert Curr, -- naval architect,' is building a little steel fishing steamer for the Case Fish Co., of Cleveland, to be 70 ft. over all, 63 ft. 6 in. on water lime, 16 it. beam-and 7 ft..9 in. deep. The engine will be high pressure 12 by 14 in., supplied with steam from a Scotch. boner 5 ft..6- in. 150 lb. pressure. for September. by 10 ft. allowed Delivery is promised Wilcox, Peck & Hughes, insurance agents, have removed from 1008 Rocke- feller building, Cleveland, to 1015-1019 in the same building. The circuit court of Michigan has held that a sailor who has signed articles for a round trip and leaves the vessel before it has completed the trip, loses the wages that he had earned up to the time that he left. The case was that of Wilbur Smith, who shipped as a sea- man on the steamer J. S. Dunham, at Conneaut, in September, 1909, signing articles for a round trip to Escanaba. He left the boat at Escanaba and as- signed his wages to Clyde Hayden, who brought suit in the justice court at Es- canaba to recover. The justice held in favor of Smith, but the circuit court en iais verdict aside. The sum of money involved in this suit was small, only $9, but the principle is important. Vessel masters have been put to much trouble by members of the crew quit- ting at upper lake ports and leaving the vessel short-handed. Col. Townsend, government engineer with headquarters at Detroit, says that he expects to open the Livingstone Channel in the lower Detroit river to navigation in September, 1911. It will be used exclusively by downbound boats and will doubtless lessen the number of collisions on the lakes, as a fair perf- centage of them take place in the con- gested water in that locality. Harry L. Bryant has been appointed soliciting freight and passenger agent for the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Co., at Buffalo.
