The Franconia will be propelled by twin-screw engines of the inverted, direct-acting, quadruple-expansion type, balanced on the Yarrow, Schlick and Tweedy system, having four cranks to each set. There will be four cylinders to each set of engines, namely, one Hy P.; one first M.P., one second M.P., and one L. P., approximately the diameters will be as follows:--33 in., 47 in., 67 in. and 95 in. respectively, with a stroke of 60 in.
