August, 1910 : TAE MARINE REVIEW ZENITH City oN Rocks orr Point Au Sasie, LAKE Superior. -Stranding of Zenith City HE 'steamer Zenith City, of the T Pittsburg Steamship Co.'s fleet, bound down with ore, ran on the rocks off Point Au Sable, Lake Superior, about 4 o'clock on the afternoon of July 27, during a fog. The accident was an extremely unfortunate one in that had the steamer passed 50 ft. to port she would have avoided the ob- struction altogether. As it was, she went on hard for two-thirds of her length, giving her a pronounced list to starboard and quite a hump amid- ships. July Ore Shipments The ore movement during July was surprising, reaching a total of 6,945,- 289 tons, an increase of 252,264 tons over July, 1909, and coming within 371,303 tons of equalling the June record of the present year. The fleet has moved 21,863,549 tons up to Aug. 1, an increase of 6,468,199 tons over the corresponding period last year. In measuring this movement it must be understood that 20 per cent of the independent tonnage has been voluntarily laid up.
