United States Collier Jupiter Launch of the First Electrically-Driven Collier at the Mare Island Navy Yard -- Description of Hull The United States collier Jupiter, building for the navy department at the Mare Island navy yard, was launched on Saturday, Aug. 24. She is the first electrically-driven sea-go- ing vessel to be built for the navy department and the description of her electric drive was published in the August number of the Review. The Jupiter is of the following general dimensions: Length of hull, 542 ft. Length between perpendiculars, 520 ft. Breadth, 65 ft. Depth of hold; 36 it. 9. in. Mean draught, 27 ft. 8 in.
