He is just rounding out 41 years of service at sea and has won high honors including the award of € B. (Companion of the Bath); C. B. E. (Commander of the Order of the Brit- ish Empire); K. B. E. (Knight Com- mander Order of the British Empire). He went to sea in 1880 in a sailing ves- sel. Since 1895 he has served on Cun ° ard vessels, his first command being the ALEPrPo in 1904. Later he took charge of the LusirANiIA and during the war was variously in command of MAURETANIA, SAxONIA, AUSONIA and CarMANIA.
