- Description
- Whelpley was a view artist and surveyor, active in Cleveland during the mid-1830s. This work is from a group of four panoramic views engraved by Milo Osborn[e] in New York in 1834. Another edition was produced in Cleveland by Sanford and Hayward. Library caption from back of frame: This shows Cleveland from the Brooklyn Hill of the West Side, looking east across the river. The cows in the foreground are about where West 25th St. is now. The water shows Irishtown, just north of the present Detroit-Superior high level bridge. The prints, damaged from being adhered to wooden boards, were treated at Northeast Document Conservation Center in 1978 and at the Intermuseum Conservation Association in 2006.
