8 THE MARINE REVIEW June, 1917 “Isherwood System of- When Noah built himself an Ark, just Refoxe the great deluge, history says that he laid a keel six times the width of his vessel and made the depth three-fifths that of its beam. Until a few years ago the proportions used by this renowned ship builder in constructing his famous vessel, were used as standard for all ship building purposes. The recent introduction of the ‘Isherwood’ System of Ship Construction, however, has at last supplanted this antiquated method of Noah. Many vessel owners now realize that by building on the “Isherwood” system, they can add 30 or 40 feet to the length of a proposed ship without changing the depth or beam and still have a ship much stronger longitudinally ‘than the shorter vessel would be if built on the ordinary transverse system. There are today, 670 vessels, representing 5,100,000 tons deadweight carrying capacity, built on the Isherwood” System. ; ‘‘Noahism”’ is obsolete—be modern—build on the ‘“‘Isherwood”’ System. J. W.
