Co., Boston, has assumed the duties of vice president of the Emer- gency Fleet corporation, serving jointly with Charles Piez as first assistant to Charles M. Schwab, director general. He will have full charge of the general administration work of the corporation, including contracts; purchasing, finance and accounting. Although only 39 years of age, Mr. Coonley has had a re- markably successful business career. In 1899 he graduated from Harvard university, and a few years later, founded the Coonley Mfg. Co., Chicago. Five years ago he was called to Boston as president of the Walworth Mfg. Co., and since his connection with the com- pany, its business has increased sixfold. At the time of his selection as vice president of the Fleet corporation he was a director of the National Bank of Boston, the Link Belt Co. B. F. Avery & Sons, Inc., the Advance Rumley Co., and several other companies. He also was vice president of the Boston cham- ber of commerce, and the Associated In- dustries of Massachusetts, and a mem- ber of the war emergency commission of Massachusetts. He has severed his connections with these vari- ous enterprises and will devote his entire time to the nation’s shipping program. OKI Ok Wurm R. WARNE, who for the past eight years has conducted a pro- fessional statistical department of his own in Washington, D: C., has been selected to fill the position of chief statistician for the Emergency Fleet corporation, serving under Vice Presi- 301 dent Coonley. The newly created statis- tical department, of which Dr. Warne is executive head, will have charge of assembling and disbursing ‘between yards and corporation headquarters all in- formation of a statistical nature. Dr. Warne is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. eo Rosert J. Top has been made general manager of the branch office recently opened in New York, by the Intercon- tinental Navigation Corp., shipbroker, with main offices at Baltimore, Brazilian ports and Argentine. ne, ee, Joun L: Ackerson, who will serve as assistant to Director General Charles M. Schwab of the Emergency Fleet corporation, has had ‘several years of actual experience in naval construction work. He graduated from the Michigan Naval academy in 1901, and after two years at sea as a midshipman, was selected for the construction corps and was sent to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a _ post graduate course in naval architecture. He later served for several years in the design branch of the bureau of construction and repair, and last August, was as- signed to duty as aide to Admiral Capps, when he joined the Fleet corporation as general manager. When Admiral Capps resigned, Mr. Ackerson remained as aide to Mr. Piez. In his new position he is a commissioned officer on active duty.
