She will operate in the Levant trade, the Imperial Navigation Co., 39 Cortlandt street, New York, being general agent. The vessel will be renamed CastLE-LODGE. * * * The schooner Mrnissa Trask has been bought at marshal’s sale by David W. Simpson, ship broker, Boston, for $2625. * * * "A recent change in registry of the steamer Brenvernon, of the Tri-National Steamship Co., operating between Boston, Halifax and St. Johns, places her under the Panama flag, where heretofore she has flown the Norwegian flag. Hawaii To Improve Ports Hawaii is floating a bond issue of $1,350,000 for harbor improvements in the islands. Money raised {by .the is- sue will be used in building new wharves and in dredging in the har- bors of Kahului-and Hilo. The Gulf Coast lines have ordered a car transfer vessel from the Dravo Contracting Co., Pittsburgh. The ves- sel will be named the G. H. WaALKkeEr, and will cost about $250,000. She will operate on the Mississippi river between. Anchorage and Baton Rouge, La. She will be 340 feet ice Pittsburgh Traffic Gains Still suffering from the effects. of the coal strike, traffic on the rivers of the Pittsburgh district showed an increase in May over April, accord- ing to. statistics prepared by the United States engineer’s office in Pittsburgh. The ‘total May tonnage was 877,258 as’ against 725,814 tons in April, a gain of 151,644 tons. The May figure, however, still is consider- able under the March tonnage of 2,- 096,906. Coal shipped on the rivers in May aggregated 283,747 tons. In April this figure was 336,660 tons while in March it was 1,793,566 tons. 2 For the first time the May “Sta- tistics include the listing steel. This amounted to 44,877 tons. Thomas Crowley, vice president and general manager of the absorbing company, comes by this merger into contral of the towing activities of San Francisco bay, being now the largest tow- bats operator on the Pacific coast and one ‘Shthe largest in the world. According to Mr. Crowley’s announcement the deal was consummated for economy purposes. There will be no change in present towing rates and likewise ney ‘change in the direc- torate of the “Red Stacks.” The San Francisco Tugboat Co. was operated by James Rolph Jr., mayor of San Francisco, who, by the merger, becomes the largest individual : owner in the new combination. The eight tugs taken over are the Storm Kine, Aras, Hercures, RELIEF, GLEANER, TAToosH, Wyappa and Cuter. Entire operation of the enlarged fleet is under William G. Darragh, superintendent of the “Red Stacks.” With the consolida- tion of the two towing organizations, Capt. Clem Randall, manager, and Capt..William’ Gray, port captain, of the “Black Stacks,” sever their connections with the company. Captain Randall was in charge of the “Red Stacks” until Mr. Crowley became “vice president and general manager. in 1918, when Captain Randall joined Mr. Rolph and organized the “Black Stacks.” Quarters of ‘the “Black Stack” ’ fleet -at Pier 21, San Francisco, will be abandoned and the merged fleets operated from Pier 15, according to Mr. Crowley.
