It remained for Diesel-electric drive to provide the flexibility required for maneuvering such large boats through canal locks, other types of drive in similar boats for the same service not having proved as successful. The Twin Ports and Twin Cities are two of the latest ships to be equipped with electric drive by the General Electric Company.
