First to appreciate the tre- mendous significance of the marine Diesel engine to American shipping, Nelseco was first to begin its manufacture. Intensive study of European Diesels led to the early selection of the M. A. N. type as a working basis. Then began the process of evolution which has produced the Nelseco—M. A. N. Diesel—the highest development ot the Diesel art in America. In this development the United States Navy has played a most important part—a role which no civilian corporation had the commercial courage or financial resources to assume. It has served as a great laboratory working toward the perfection of a Diesel engine to meet its own vital needs and exacting requirements; and until recently has absorbed a large proportion of Nelseco plant capacity. Following the lead of the Navy, the U. S. Shipping Board has selected the new 3,300 H. P. Nelseco—M. A. .N. Diesel to replace. the steam propelling machinery in an 8,800 ton freighter. It is with this “background”—this long and honorable record of Government service—that the Nelseco— M. A. N. Diesel is. offered to American industry afloat and ashore. Nelseco engineers will be glad to discuss conversion with Owners of steam vessels who wish to reduce operating costs and increase cargo capacity and profits. THE NEW LONDON SHIP & ENGINE CO.
