They have, since completion given good service and are particularly fitted for operation on Long Is- land sound to’ Boston via Cape Cod canal, on the New York State barge canal and_ the Great Lakes. Propellers—Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. Refrigeration—Brunswick, Kroeschell Co. Lighting Set—Kohler Co., automatic type. Air Compressor —Winton Engine Works. Electric Generators—Diehl Mfg. Co. electrical end and Standard Motor Construction Co., engines. On some of the other vessels the Pacific Diesel Engine Co.’s engines are used. Life Saving Equip—Welin Davit & Boat Corp. Silencers—Maxim Silencer Co. This vessel and class are steel twin screw diesel motor barges, built to carry gasoline in bulk. The cargo is carried in seven double tanks, the fuel oil being carried in a tank forward of the engine room. These vessels have all the latest improve- ments for rapid loading and discharging of cargo. They are built to highest classification of Ameri- can Bureau of shipping for the Standard Trans- portation Company of New York. Their great length and considerable beam give them a large cargo capacity on a draft of 12 feet, which is the maximum allowable for the barge canal locks. They have low superstructures to permit passage under canal bridges. With twin screws the neces- sary maneuvering in restricted waters is readily accomplished. According to reports from the op- erators they have come up to expectations and given excellent service.
