Stuttgart, a passenger boat of the North German Lloyd Line, is one of the largest and most efficient superheated boats running into the Port of New York. On a fuel consumption of 102 tons of oil per day, she maintains an average speed of 16. knots per, hour, with 9500 inp, or at thie rate of | 1b. of oil per i. hp. per hr. for all purposes. The Stuttgart is fitted with twin screw four cylinder triple expansion engines, three double ended Scotch boilers and one single ended boiler. The boilers are equipped with Elesco type firetube superheaters designed to deliver 200 deg. of superheat at the throttle. The high pressure piston rings are of the Ramsbottom type, 14 in. deep, five for each cylinder. The present rings have been in operation more than twelve months. Over 3000 ships, flying all flags, are equipped with Elesco type superheaters.
