The Tug ‘‘Samson”’ oS Repeat Orders Emphasize Success HE Diesel tug ‘‘Samson”’ is the latest addition to the fleet owned by the Diamond ‘“‘P”’ Transporta- tion Company, of Philadelphia. Equipped with an Ingersoll-Rand six-cylinder oil engine, the “Samson” has been operating at an average fuel cost of only 16 cents per mile. ‘The power plant in this craft was chosen because of the successful and consistent perform- ances of the tugs “Hustler’’ and “Sonittep,’ which are also equipped with I-R oil engines. Ingersoll-Rand marine engines, installed in the boats mentioned above, are of the solid-injection, four-cycle type. They are direct-connected and reversible, the single-lever control being employed. Non-reversible engines for oil-electric drive are also available, the horsepowers of these engines ranging from 125 to 1200.
