and her oil fuel capacity 3200 tons. The ship was laid down in February 1927 and due to be completed in the financial year which begins in April. HE motor’ vessel AUSTRALIND which has been built for the Australind Shipping Co. Ltd. of London by William Denny & Bros. Ltd., was launched Feb. 8 from the Leven ship- yard, Dumbarton. The AUSTRALIND is a single screw motor cargo vessel of the open shelter deck type with three cargo holds forward and two aft, No. 8 hold immediately forward of the machinery space being also ar- ranged to serve as a deep tank. The vessel is 425 feet long and 8800 tons deadweight. The main propell- ing machinery consists of one Denny- Sulzer, two-cycle diesel engine of the marine type having six cylinders, one double acting scavenge pump, three stage air compressor and pumps. CCORDING to Mr. Bridgeman, first lord of the admiralty, six British warships are provided for in the estimates of February and March this year. They are allocated as follows:—one cruiser at the Ports- mouth dockyard, one cruiser and two sloops at Devenport, one submarine and one submarine depot ship at Chatham. The remaining ships will be built by contract in private ship- yards accustomed to naval work.
