Diesel Direct Drive in Tanker Blue Sunoco Two Engines—Each 500 B. H. P. DESCRIPTION This tanker has twin screws. An engine such as described and illustrated here is di- rect connected to each propeller. The engine is of single acting, solid injection, direct reversible type. The crankshaft for both main bearings and pins is ten inches in diam- eter. The camshaft is built overhead and is driven by a-_ silent chain drive at the cen- ter of the shaft. Remarks The BLUE SUNOCO is a steel vessel of single deck type and the hull is constructed on the Isherwood bracketless system. The machinery is located aft and so are the fuel oil tanks and pump room. The dry cargo space is forward. The BLUE SuNOcO is one of a fleet of the Sun Oil Co. engaged in transporting oil and gaso- line to inland points and is thoroughly modern in construction and equipment throughout. Both engines may be controlled with one lever, so that one engineer can operate the two in any man- euvers.
