NEW AMERICAN SrilP SERVICE New equipment checks safety valves at working steam pressures . . HIS new steam testing compressor enables us to check the operation of safety valves, throttle valves, stop valves, check valves and many other steam specialties under actual steam operating conditions. It provides us with steam for “popping off” safety valves at any pressure — up to 500 pounds—with but 2 or 3 pounds drop in pressure. It permits us to check the proper adjustment of steam valves not only on marine engines and boilers but also on similar industrial equip- ment, especially for power and light plants. Engineers know the annoyance as well as the loss in time and money which comes when repaired valves, adjusted by hydraulic test, fail under work- ing steam pressure. With this new apparatus, Ameri- can Ship assures you adjustment for your operating conditions. This is what happens when you send valves to us for repairs: Skilled and experienced workmen carefully grind in the valve seats and provide any necessary new parts; then the valve is adjusted at your working steam pressure. In the same way, all new American Ship valves are tested to fit your needs. Valves from all over the Great Lakes are being sent to us at Cleveland for repairs and checking, although our new equipment has been installed only a few weeks. American Ship obviously is offering another service which steam users need and want. May we serve you? The AMERICAN SHIP BUILDING CO.
