Description
This image shows the schooner J.T. Wing on Belle Isle as the Museum of Great Lakes History between 1949 and 1956. Colorful and generally accurate, the rendering would be considered folk art. While the signature is hard to decipher, the deed of gift indicates the artist’s name as Walter Nolski. It is undated. This museum ship was burned in place in 1956, and was replaced in 1960 by the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. The painting was donated Virginia Szurma.
