Description
Artist Leo V. Kuschel was popular for evocative image of ships and lighthouses. This rather whimsical oil study, dated 1972, shows salvage vessels working to refloat the Sidney E. Smith, Jr. after its collision with the Parker Evans under the Blue Water Bridge on June 5, 1972. The Smith’s hull was later developed into a breakwall and popular fishing spot in Sarnia, Ontario. The painting was donated by Kuschel, who died in 2016.
