Description
One framed reproduction print of a watercolor painting entitled "A View of Detroit and the Straits, Taken from the Huron Church, June 22nd 1804."
The color print on linen paper shows a view of the Sandwich (Windsor, Ontario) shoreline in the foreground including the Huron Church (Our Lady of the Assumption) which was built in 1787. The Detroit River, Fort Lernoult (Detroit), and the Michigan shoreline are visible in the background.
Additional handwritten text along the bottom of the drawing reads "Here the Americans first landed to invade Upper Canada. The Straits are three miles across. Gen'l [Isaac] Brock returned the compliment and took Detroit."

The location is given as "Lat. 42.38, Long. 81.40."

The original watercolor painting was done by Dr. Edward Walsh whose name is shown near the lower right corner of the print. The print, likely make about 1935, is held in a plain brown wood frame with a wide white matte edge and protective glass.
