- One watercolor painting of the tugboat, Sweepstakes. The painting shows a port side view of the tugboat which is underway in fair weather on a lake. The artist has signed her name, "Perry," in the lower right corner. The painting is held in a decorative brown wood frame with a white matte edge.
Sweepstakes was built in 1867 at Cleveland for towing duties in the Huron-Erie Corridor. Her owner, N. H. Strong, belonged to the Detroit Tug Association and St. Clair River Tug Association. She later towed coal barges, then ended up on the East Coast where she sank in 1923.
The artist is June Perry, artist, diver, historian, and wife of maritime historian C. Patrick Labadie. - Date of Original
