Description
This is a black and white charcoal drawing of the steamboat " The Forest Queen. " The boat is shown on choppy water. There is a center smoke-stack with black smoke pouring out. Flags are flying on board. One flag has the words Detroit and Port Huron. The artist is unknown and there is no date on this piece.
The Forest Queen was built by John Bushnell at Newport, Michigan (aka Ward's Landing, now Marine City) in 1855 for Samuel and Eber B. Ward. Ran out of Detroit to either Port Huron and Saginaw, or Cleveland and Buffalo. Converted to a barge in 1866.
