The article identifies A. Ferguson among the dead. He was an engineer on the GP Griffith and he did survive. He is my great grandfather who later married Margaret Brice in Detroit, Michigan (1852)

Among the dead were Mrs Walker and child. I would assume it was meant to be Mrs Waters. Harriet Jemima Waters (nee Galley) from Cambridgeshire, England was lost with her 14 month old son Henry William Waters. Her husband, my GG Grandfather, William Ridd Waters, survived and made his way to New Zealand, via Australia, arriving about 1855. He became Mayor of Nelson in 1877 and died in 1881.

I have been repairing/uprighting headstones at Pittsford cemetery, Pittsford, NY..in section main M there is a monument with 3 names of those who died in this incident George Reed (38yrs old), Harriet E. Calhoun(37yrs old), and daughter Hannah Reed(3 yrs old)..engraved are their names/dates/and "all died at burning of the boat Griffith June 17 1850"
